Eremobatine solpugids possess a single claw on the tip of the first leg. Most solpugids, and indeed, most arachnids, bear two claws. The single claw of the eremobatines, which is flattened and has a broad base, is a unique inherited feature (a synapomorphy) shared by members of this distinctive lineage. Four genera are known, three of which - Eremorhax, Eremocosta, and Eremobates - occur in California. The peculiar genus Eremothera occurs in Arizona, Sonora, and Baja California, but has not yet been reported from California.
