Serradigitus torridus, Williams & Berke Figure 1. Serradigitus torridus Williams & Berke 1986: 350-354. DIAGNOSIS. - Moderate sized member of Serradigitus; females to 32 mm long, males to 27 mm. long. Body color light brown, without fuscous markings on carapace. Pedipalp palm rounded and swollen, with prominent sculpturing between keels. Supernumerary granules 6 on fixed finger, 7 on movable finger. Two pairs of dorsal median setae on metasomal segment IV. Males with 16-18 pectine teeth, females with 14-15 teeth; usually the proximal 2 pectine teeth are enlarged in females. 1-2 enlarged denticles on the fixed finger divides the primary row denticles into 2-3 subrows. Similar to S. wupatkiensis and S. qertschi gertschi but differs as follows: greater pedipalp depth and width and more prominent sculpturing. Differs from S. qertschi gertschi in having 2 pairs of setae along the dorsal median keels of segment IV. TYPE DATA. - Serradigitus torridus, holotype (male), allotype; CAS, Type No. 15750, Red Rock Canyon State Recreation Area, Kern County, California, 8-X-80, S. C. Williams; female allotype: Red Rock Canyon, Kern County California, 16-VIII-81, S. C. Williams. DISTRIBUTION. - Southeastern Kern County, California in north-west portion of Mohave desert. NEW RECORDS. - Kern County, Red Rock Canyon State Park, near campsite #11, 21-IX-87, (B. Berke), 2 males. REMARKS. - Other than the swollen pedipalp claw, this species closely resembles other members of the gertschi group of Serradigitus. Although the claw makes this species easily identifiable, specimens of S. gertschi, gertschi from Baja California, Mexico have a similarly expanded pedipalp palm. |
